The making of Ransack

It all started with a Moo.com mini card and the flip of a coin.

My March idea for a game started with the desire to make a game that could be played with my business cards. I wanted it to be something that two people could play using things they had in their pockets, which is why I decided that all of the randomness in the game should be based on the flip of a coin. As the idea evolved and took shape I found that it had taken on a life of its own that exceeded the bounds of just a Moo card...

Transforming your words with Glossi.com

I make no attempt to disguise my recent love of Wattpad. I post stories there, I created a story competition site for it, I even created a Chrome app to streamline my Wattpad workflow. Yeah, I get it, I'm a nerd. Let's move on.

Recently on the Wattpad Insider they had a feature about how Margaret Atwood and Naomi Alderman transformed their story, The Happy Zombie Sunrise Home into an illustrated short story.

The story is quite wonderful even before they gave the first two chapters the Glossi treatment, but once I saw it spread out on the page with animations and bold fonts I was hooked. I had to make one of my own.

One Game a Month: Mid January Update

Wow. I can't believe it has only been 9 days since I learned about One Game a Month. The premise is simple: make one game every month for the entirety of 2013.

Social media in your (new) home

Every day people are finding new ways to use social media. This advertising agency took customizing a showhome to a whole other level. People were allowed to register for showhome tours via Facebook, and their personal data as used to customize the showhome tour.

Have a look at the results:

When I watched this video I felt mixed emotions - awe and apprehension. While this use is pretty innocent I can see something like this being misused pretty easily. (Not to mention the fact that there are definitely some Facebook pictures I'm sure parents wouldn't want their kids walking into a room and seeing, nudge, nudge, wink, wink...)

I think this would be an interesting kit to create for people, though. You could offer a "Facebook home customization kit" that came with a series of WiFi picture frames and a central controller to keep them synced to your account. I think that a lot of pictures get put on the wall and then we eventually tune them out. If the frames were solar powered and used a colour eInk display they wouldn't require batteries and could update automatically once they had a sufficient charge.

So what do you think? Is social media on your walls too creepy, or do you think this is the direction that technology is going?
